After years of separation, the last month widowed Mary and last month divorced Rhoda are reunited and find that though their lives veered off in vastly dfiferent directions, they have more in common than they ever realized. Mary and Rhoda struggle toegther to find jobs in a world that doesnt recognize the potential of girls of a certain age and both try to understand their rebellious daughters (Rose and Meredith), who are forging their own identities without the help of their mothers.
